The Hamazkayin branch in Cyprus traces its roots back to 1999 when a group of devoted members established the “Oshakan” branch in Nicosia. Starting with only 20 members, the branch has since expanded its activities, attracting more members and forming a dance group, a theater group and organizing cultural evenings. Currently, the branch has 95 members.
The “Sipan” Dance Group was formed in 1999 in Nicosia and has since been admired for its annual performances by Armenian and local circles. In 2016, the “Ani” dance group was formed in the city of Paphos, and in 2019, the “Cilicia” dance group was formed in Limassol.
In 2000, the “Timag” Theater Group was founded, which presented a theatre performance every year. In 2017, the “Hekiat” youth theatre troupe was formed, and in the 2022/23 period, the “Hekiat” Theater Workshop for youth training also began to operate.
Cultural evenings are organized four to five times a year, showcasing various fields of Armenian culture and their works to the public.
Hamazkayin Cyprus actively participates in the local cultural life, particularly with the participation of its dance groups in festivals and other events in various cities. In recent years, the dance groups of Hamazkayin Cyprus have been invited to perform in other countries such as Greece (Komotini), Pulkaria (Plovdiv), and Armenia (Gyumri), representing Hamazkayin and the Cypriot Armenians at these events.
